sir,
I am directed by Secretary Sir E. Grey to transmit herewith, for the information of Mr. Setre tary Bonar Law, a copy of a letter which has been received fron the War Trade Department with reference to the status of the Holland-China Trading Company in China.
The evidence adduced against this Company does not appear to Sir E. Grey to justify its removal from the China White List in view of the fact that
the intercepted letters mentioned are several months old and that there is no evidence in the possession of this Department to show that the firm of Leykauff and Company of Tientsin, who are mentioned as proposing to transfer their trade in ground-nuts with Marseilles to the Holland-China Trading Company, is in fact an enemy firm.
Sir E. Grey, would, however, be glad to receive the observations of the Secretary of State for the Colonies on the evidence adduced in the second heading
of the enclosure in the letter communicated herewith before replying to the War Trade Department.
The Under-Secretary of State,
Colonial Office.
I am,
sir,
Your most obedient.
humble Servant,
Whangan
